Project 365 – Day 243

The boys were playing in the sandbox today, and asked if they could use the hose to wet down the sand. I guess they were trying to make some sort of sand structure. Of course things got out of hand quickly, and it ended up being a water fight instead.
Holiday Cards!
Posted on August 30, 2009
I know, I know. It’s not even September yet (though it’s felt like late October around here the past few days!). But the Christmas rush will be upon us before we know it, so it’s best to plan ahead. In fact, there will be an announcement here in the next couple of days about my new holiday mini-sessions. The best part of the mini-sessions? They come with cards! And these aren’t just your plain ol’ cards. These are custom-designed 5″ x 7″ folded greeting cards, complete with images from your session. Take that, Hallmark!
This year, in addition to the designs that I’ve offered the past couple of years, I’ve decided to team up with the very talented designer who makes my “Defined” storyboards. These cards are very unique and I’m sure you will get lots of compliments on them from your friends and family members. The best part of these cards? They are completely customizable! Love the design but want a different color? No problem! Want to change definitions? Done! There are even a few additional definitions not shown on these samples (Wonder, Jingle, Season, Joyful, Jolly). And for all of you new parents out there, check out the special “Silent Night” card – it’s perfect! If you have any questions about these cards, or would like to order a set, please give me a call or send me an email.

I was just going through the bag of souvenirs from our Philly/DC trip and took this out to wash. Do you know how hard it is to find personalized gift items when your kids are named Grant and Griffin? Grant was thrilled to find this at the gift shop in the Air & Space Museum. We still have yet to find anything with Griffin’s name on it.

The shaggy-haired summer has ended! The boys got their much-needed back to school haircuts today. They clean up pretty well!
Flashback Friday!
Posted on August 28, 2009
It’s the first Flashback Friday post! If you read the August edition of the Jen Marriner Photography newsletter, then you know that this is a new weekly feature here on the website. How does it work? It’s simple. Each Friday (barring illness, travel, or forgetfulness) I will be posting one image from a previous portrait session. It may be a recent one, or it could be one from a year (or more) ago. If that image is from your session, you need to contact me via email before midnight the following day (Saturday), and tell me that you saw your picture on Flashback Friday. If you do, you will receive a great gift! The gifts will change each week, but could include things like a print of your flashback image, print credits, discounts on creative fees, or whatever else I can think of. It’s going to be a lot of fun! Just be sure to tell all of your friends and relatives to keep an eye on my website (even better – subscribe to the RSS feed) so that they can be sure to tell you if your picture is selected.
OK, first up is this little diva from back in early June. I’ve known her for a couple of years – she went to preschool with Griffin. She is one of three (soon to be four!) adorable kids, and I had a great time at their portrait session. I can’t wait to do it again when the new baby is here!
OK, if this picture is from your portrait session, email me right now!!! If I get your email by 11:59pm tomorrow (8/29), you’ll receive a $25.00 print credit, which can be used for prints from your previous session or saved for your next one. Ready…set…GO!
Grant’s New(ish) Plane
Posted on August 28, 2009
As I’ve mentioned here before, last summer Grant joined a group called Hawks, where he gets to fly really cool R/C planes twice a week. We were so busy this summer that we missed a bunch of days, but this was the last week that they were meeting for the summer, so we made sure that we went. And last evening Grant brought his little battery-powered R/C plane that he got from Grandma last Christmas. It’s been sitting on his shelf since December, and he’s never gotten a chance to fly it till now (he generally remembers that he has it at bedtime, or when we’re out of town, or when it’s raining, of course). It’s not as fancy as those big gas-powered planes that he normally flies at Hawks, but he still had a great time with it.
Checking out his plane, which he has named “The Stingray.”

His Hawks instructor helps him launch the plane.

Uh-oh, it landed in the weeds.

I love this little boy. With his mis-matched clothing, his shaggy hair, his dirty knees, and a book from his favorite series. He’s my little lovebug.

There were some gorgeous clouds this evening.

We’ve had a Muppet-y evening here in our household. The boys have watched The Muppet Movie (Griffin’s first time seeing it), and I remembered how much I love the song “The Rainbow Connection.” So I searched the internet and found the sheet music. Then came the hard part – I had to convnce Grant to start learning it. He wasn’t thrilled with the idea, but he’s a good kid and he is willing to give it a try. I figure that makes up for the 482,451 times I’ve had to endure him playing the Mario Brothers theme song.
