Project 365 – Day 151
Posted on May 31, 2009
I knew it was a bad idea from the start. I don’t know what came over me last night, but somehow we left the Syracuse Chiefs gift shop with these two minature bats. I’m sure there were promises made by two cute little boys that they would never EVER hit each other with them. And somehow I believed them.. Guess what? THEY LIED. And now Mom is the proud owner of two minature Red Sox bats.
The New Photo Books
Posted on May 31, 2009
I’m always on the lookout for the best products for my clients. I want to give you beautiful ways to preserve your memories. One product that I have been offering for a while now are photo books. But I’ve been a little dissatisfied with the photo book vendor I had previously been using. One reason was that the 7″ x 7″ size just seemed a little too small, but the next size up – the 10″ x 10″ – came with a HUGE jump in price. Also, it was taking at least four weeks for them to print, bind & ship the books. Add that to the 2-3 weeks that it normally takes me to design a book, and you have just too long of a wait.
I am pleased to announce that I have found another company to print my books, and they are fabulous!! Their smaller book is 8″ x 8″, and though it doesn’t sound like much, that one inch increase makes a huge difference. Even better, the 10″ x 10″ book is no longer double the price! The books are specially bound so that the page spreads lay flat, and the pages are gloss-coated so they really shine and show off your images. And this company takes half the time to print, bind & ship, so you’ll have your gorgeous new book in only four weeks instead of six or seven.
Here’s a peek at one of the new books. Ian’s dad gets a “Sweetest Husband of the Year” award for secretly ordering this for his wife for Mother’s Day…
The cover – pick your favorite image to make an eye-catching cover that’s perfect for your coffee table.

One of the page spreads. See how the pages lay flat?

It’s because of this cool hinged binding.

Your pages can have just a single image, or multiple images, and I can add all sorts of fun backgrounds.

Even add text to your book! This is a French lullaby that Ian’s mom sings to him. My high school seniors like to add song lyrics, poems or favorite quotations to their books. Have another idea for your book? Just ask!

The bad news? All of this fabulousness is a little more expensive, so the photo books and all of the packages that include them have seen a small price increase. But it’s so worth it!!
Speaking of price increases, I’ve had to increase the price of my session albums as well. The vendor that I purchase the albums from as well as the one that does my prints both had pretty substantial price increases at the beginning of the year. I’ve tried to absorb the cost myself, but it’s gotten to be a bit much, so I’ve had to pass along the increase. Therefore the session album and the packages that include it have gone up a bit.
"HeART and Soul of the Y" Auction
Posted on May 31, 2009
Attention all readers within driving distance of Fulton!!!
The Fulton YMCA is holding its annual charity gala this Friday, June 5th at the Polish Home. Tons of artwork created by local artists will be up for auction this year. Including mine! I’m very excited because although I have helped create pieces for the auction the past two years, this is the first year that I’ve donated my own work. So, if you are looking for some of my pictures to hang on your walls, be there Friday! Doors open at 6:00pm and the live bidding starts at 8:00pm. Below are the six pieces of mine that will be available. Some old favorites, like the Oswego lighthouse, the daffodil and the coneflower, as well as some new work like the pink and orange tulips and the waterfall from Chittenango Falls. To get a look at some of the other work that will be up for auction, check out the YMCA website.
I hope to see you all there on Friday!

This evening I took Grant, Griffin and their friend Kayla to a Syracuse Chiefs baseball game. They all got sugared up on funnel cakes and had a fun, silly time.

A clay giraffe that Griffin made at school. Love it!

Griffin’s new goal in life? To win the National Spelling Bee. I wouldn’t be surprised if he did it, either. He’s only in Kindergarten and has recently been spelling words such as “automobile” and “photography” (ok, he may have seen that a few times) without even thinking about them. This evening he corrected his older brother on his spelling of “tongue.” Just give him a few years and he’ll be up on that stage.

I just returned to work after a nice long five-day weekend. I should be feeling refreshed, energized and ready to face the last month of school, right?
Wrong.
The Boys and the Buttercups
Posted on May 26, 2009
I didn’t have any girls available, so I convinced the boys to go out and let me get some pictures of them. I haven’t done their portraits since last fall, so we were due for an update.
I am beyond thrilled with the picture of Grant. He’s so hard to get a decent picture of. He’s a typical photographer’s kid – hates the camera, has had far too many pictures taken of him in his life. Usually he just makes goofy faces and I end up disappointed. And he did make a fair number of goofy faces today, but I snagged this one and was very excited.

Griffin is usually easier to photograph, because he is still a little ham and loves to smile for the camera. But I wanted something a little different, and I love the innocent look on his face in this picture.

I have always considered myself to be a fairly unobservant person. I am not the person you want to have as a witness to some sort of crime. I could see the Jolly Green Giant rob a bank and still get the description wrong. But even I can’t believe that I have missed this. This is our fith spring living in this house, and somehow I have previously missed the fact that there is a giant field of buttercups behind our house. Well, not directly behind, but adjacent to our backyard. This is astonishing to me, because I have always wanted to do a portrait session with a girl in a field of buttercups. But I never knew where to find the field. Apparently I only needed to look out back. And now, of course, we’re due for three days of rain, so I can’t even get someone out there for pictures. Let’s hope the field makes it through the rain looking as pretty as it is now. Maybe I can line up someone for portraits this weekend. If you are interested, give me a call!
More of Darby
Posted on May 26, 2009
I’m just finishing up Darby’s session, and I had to post a couple more. She has the most beautiful eyes!
This next one looked very nice in color, but on a whim I converted it to black & white and just fell in love with the texture in her eyes!
